How long does it take to implement an anesthesia EMR?

The short answer, typically, is too long. Or "longer than we wanted".

Anescan was designed to avoid the drawn-out, complicated integration. In fact, the majority of our implementations average less than 8 weeks from approval to implement to go-live.  On-site training only takes a week. Here is what the process looks like:

The first step is to develop an overall implementation plan for all sites based on scope, location and client requirements. The implementation of AneScan includes multiple steps per facility. AneScan works concurrently to achieve the most efficient implementation possible when multi-site facilities are involved.

The key steps of an implementation are

  1. Facility evaluation

  2. Software setup

  3. Interface development

  4. Hardware configuration

  5. Training

Implementation Approach and Timeline

The duration of an implementation can take between one and two months, depending on the scale of the practice. For instance, for multi-facility implementations, AneScan works to set up each hospital’s site and configure interfaces in parallel. This ensures implementations occur on a rolling basis, shortening the overall timeline.

A regional approach to the overall implantation allows the data collection and facility evaluation to begin for multiple facilities. This information will be passed on to software engineers and site designers to prepare each facility for implementation as the data collection team moves on to the next sites for evaluation.

In-depth training is key for successful go lives. AneScan provides a series of live webinars throughout the entire implementation process with on-site training presence during the week of go live.

Live on-site training is scheduled for each facility in conjunction with the go live date. During go live, AneScan trainers take a direct approach and do elbow-to-elbow training for all staff for each aspect of the perioperative process. On-site training only takes one week and is unobtrusive to the surgical schedule.

Trainers wear scrubs and train anesthesia providers from pre-op, intra-op to PACU. We also train pre-op, PAT, PACU and floor nurses to access PDF images of the completed medical record. Prior to training we coordinate the new streamlined workflow with Pharmacy and Medical Records, and train these departments during the week of go live.

AneScan takes a very different approach to implementations by customizing your EMR site to mirror your facility’s workflow. This significantly streamlines the time it takes to implement and reduces the training time during the go-live week. The result is a seamless implementation of an EMR that has you up and running fast and does not impact the surgical schedule.
